Amelia Earhart
Amelia Earhart is an American pilot who has set many flying records and advocated for the advancement of women in aviation. On July 2, 1937, 40-year-old Amelia Earhart went missing with her plane and her navigator on what would have been the first female circumnavigation of the world. After leaving Lae, they had to fly another 2,500 miles to get to their next stop - Howland, a very small island in the Pacific - to refuel. Unfortunately, cloudy skies, radio transmission problems and low fuel meant Earhart and her partner didn't make it to their destination. She was never buried because she was never found.
