Paul Shaffer
If you're a fan of The Late Show With David Letterman, then you're probably familiar with Paul Shaffer. Shaffer was the musical director for The Late Show for decades, leading the show's house band, the world-renowned The CBS Orchestra. In 2010, Shaffer was guest hosting The Late Show while Letterman was on vacation. The next day, Shaffer called in sick to work. He was found unresponsive by the side of the road in New York City, and he was rushed to the hospital. He was in a coma for several weeks and eventually came out of it, but he has been unable to speak or perform since. Nobody knows how Shaffer ended up in the condition he was found in. Some people have speculated that he was trying to kill himself.
