Jimmy Hoffa
Before being pardoned by President Richard Nixon in 1971, the notorious labor leader served four years in prison for crimes committed as president of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, the largest union in the United States. (His crimes include jury tampering, mail fraud and bribery.) In 1975, fresh from prison, Hoffa was planning to meet two Detroit thugs as part of his retake of leadership of the motorcade. Hoffa's true fate has been debated for decades, with the most famous claim being that he was buried in the end zone of Giants Stadium.
