Five Fastest Car in the World

Five Fastest Car in the World

Rachel -

People have been fascinated by fast cars since they existed - and many would consider it an unparalleled adrenaline rush. But what car is the fastest? Below you'll find a full list of the five fastest currently on sale.

1.) Bugatti Chiron Supersport 300+

Top speed: 304mph

The cliché of doing what it says on the tin rears its head here, because the Bugatti Chiron Supersport 300+ will do, well, 300mph+. More specifically, it hit 304 mph when the French company decided to unleash it on Volkswagen's Ehra-Lessien test track.

The 1,600-horsepower behemoth doesn't officially hold the world record, though, as it only goes in one direction. To break the record, you have to do it twice in the opposite direction - for whatever reason, Bugatti decided not to.

2.) SSC Tuatara

Top speed: 268mph

The American SSC Tuatara is second on this list, with a top speed of 286 mph. That said, it's not without a little controversy.

You see, the SSC claimed that the Tuatara was actually going 316 mph in October 2020, making it the fastest car in the world - but later admitted a GPS error that mischaracterized that speed. Later tests saw it hit a top speed of 286 mph (283 mph average for both runs). Still not very slow, is it?

3.) McLaren Speedtail

Top speed: 250mph

McLaren didn't design the Speedtail to chase world records, but with a top speed of 250 mph, it's the fastest road car it's ever built.

That's faster than its last three-seater, the legendary McLaren F1. Its ultra-slippery body lacks dramatic wings, which means it looks like something ripped straight out of a futuristic cyberpunk movie. Think about taking your two buddies with you at this speed...

4.) Koenigsegg Regera

Top speed: 250mph

Matching the Speedtail is the Koenigsegg Regera. This Swedish speed machine features a twin-turbo V8 and electric motor for a combined 1,500 horsepower.

Unlike any other car on this list, the Regera can go from 0-250 mph in just one gear. Yes, you'll be in the same gear whether you're cruising at 30mph or aiming to reach its top speed of 250mph (on a closed course, not the M1). Seems a bit crazy.

5.) Lamborghini Aventador SVJ

Top speed: 217mph

The fastest naturally aspirated production car you can buy right now comes from the lunatics at Lamborghini. Really, it's not surprising.

The SVJ is the ultimate version of the Lamborghini Aventador supercar, with a 6.5-liter V12 engine producing up to 770 horsepower. Its top speed of 217 mph is effectively the same as the standard Aventador S, but the lighter and more grippy SVJ will get there faster and be quicker around corners.
