Here's how you can rescue a damaged key

Have you ever had a key stuck in a lock? You can break the key in half by turning it side-to-side with too much force and get half of the key stuck in the lock. What should you do in this situation? You can contact a locksmith, but this is expensive and impractical. You can remove the key stuck in the lock by yourself. Read on to learn how.

Locksmith

Locksmiths can solve your problem in minutes, but they're not our best friends. This is because their fees are particularly high, especially on nights, weekends and holidays, which can run up to several hundred euros. However, accidents always happen at the worst time. Fortunately, we have many ways to save you money.

Broken key

Did you notice part of the key sticking out of the lock? You can lubricate the lock with a little oil or WD-40. The WD-40 is an excellent choice due to its elongated nozzle that allows it to get as close as possible to the wrench and spray. Carefully spray the oil between the key and the lock, and don't be stingy with the amount. Finally, use tweezers to remove the key.

When the key breaks in the depths of the lock

The key is broken in the lock and there is no protruding part? Please don't despair because you can still get it out with some tools. For example, you can use a strong magnet to remove a broken key from a lock. However, not everyone has a strong magnet, and it could be that the key is stuck deep in the lock and the strong magnet doesn't work. You can also use tweezers or a straightened paper clip to remove the key from the lock. If none of the above methods work, you might consider applying glue to the other half of the key and attaching it to the key stuck in the lock. After the glue is dry, pull out the key. Still unable to remove the key after trying the above methods? Read on to find out more ways to get your keys!

Saw

Using this method to retrieve the key is guaranteed to be successful. All you need is a wire saw like the one pictured below. If possible, it is recommended that you buy a hacksaw blade. Its extremely fine blade must have very fine teeth. You can use pliers to cut fine teeth for the saw blade to make it matte. Make sure the blade has a large tooth on the end.

Specific operation method

Push the saw blade into the lock, making sure the teeth are facing you. This way, you'll form what resembles a small fishing rod that you can use to turn a wrench. You can try removing the key by moving the saw blade up and down. You may need to repeat the action, the key will pop out of the lock after repeated attempts.

Successfully removed the key

Did you successfully remove the key from the lock? Awesome! All you need to do now is get a spare key from your neighbor, family member or friend. If you don't have a spare key, you can find a nearby locksmith to duplicate the key, provided the broken key is split into two clean parts. If none of the above methods can solve your problem, then you can only ask a locksmith to replace your lock with a new one….
