The Best Solution to Remove Mold From Your Shower

There is nothing more relaxing and invigorating than a hot shower after a long day at work. But with all the moisture from water and steam, this part of your home is prone to growing mold. A moldy, mildew-infested shower is the last place you want to be in. There are some simple steps you can take to remove the mold from your shower and keep it from coming back again.

Step 1: Get Rid of the Mold

The first step to get rid of the mold is to clean it. It’s important to remember that you don’t want to clean it away, you want to clean it up. A lot of people make the mistake of cleaning the mold away, only to leave a surface clean but still moist and welcoming for mold to return. To clean the mold, use a mixture of one part bleach and two parts water. Make sure to thoroughly cover the moldy areas. Let the bleach sit on the mold for 15 minutes to kill it. Then, wipe the area down with a mixture of one part vinegar and two parts water. This will get some of the moisture out of the area. And don’t forget to dehumidify the area.

Step 2: Cleaning Your Shower With Baking Soda

The next step is to clean the rest of the shampoo out of it. So much of what makes a shower moldy is the water sitting in the walls of the shower with shampoo and soap residue. You can use baking soda to clean the rest of the residue out. Put a good amount of baking soda in a scrub bucket or a similar type of container. Then, fill the bucket with water and slosh it around to make a nice, soapy water. Use the scrub bucket to clean the walls of the shower.

Step 3: Bleach Bathroom Shower

If the previous steps didn’t work and the mold is persistent, you may need to bleach the shower. To do this, mix up a bleach and water solution. Make it as strong as you can without actually hurting yourself. The stronger the bleach solution, the better it is at killing the mold. Let the bleach solution sit for a few hours. During this time, make sure that the bleach is covering the mold. You can use a brush, a sponge, or a cloth to make sure that the bleach solution is touching every bit of mold.

Step 4: Scrub With Vinegar and Baking Soda

Mix up a solution of 1 part vinegar and 4 parts baking soda. Use this mixture to scrub the shower with a sponge. Be sure to scrub the walls, the door, and the floor of the shower. Scrub the shower for a good amount of time. If you’re using a sponge, you may have to change it out a few times. You don’t want to scrub with the same sponge for too long because it can start to scratch the walls of the shower.
