8. Arkansas--extreme weathers and low education level

Arkansas is known for its extreme weather and frequent storms. A typical year brings thunderstorms, tornadoes, hail, snow and ice storms. Between the Great Plains and gulf States, Arkansas has about 60 days of thunderstorms. Arkansas is located in Tornado Alley, so some of the most destructive tornadoes in U.S. history hit the state. Though far enough from the coast to avoid a direct hit from a hurricane, Arkansas often encounters the remnants of tropical systems that dump large amounts of rain over short periods of time and often produce smaller tornadoes.

Arkansas is one of the least educated states in the country. It ranks last in terms of the percentage of the population with a high school or college degree. The state's education system has a history of underfunding, low-paid teachers and political interference in the curriculum.
